Environmental Sustainability Internship

UC Solar Research

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

UC Solar are seeking two undergraduate students to work as research interns in their lab for the spring semester of 2017

The internship will require a commitment of 8 hours a week and will last 10-14 weeks. The internships will begin January 17th, 2017. The compensation will be $14/hour. This is a paid internship that will provide you with invaluable experiences and professional development opportunities. As an intern, you will report directly to:

-Roland Winston, Director UC Solar

-Ron Durbin, Director of Development

-Nicholas Conte, Sustainability Coordinator, who will assist in developing, planning, and implementing the program and will act as a sustainability peer-to-peer throughout the duration of this internship.

Primary Duties:

• - Develop and deliver educational content to grade school students as part of the UC Solar/MID partnership with the Stephen Leonard Recreation Center in Merced, including the design and completion of planned solar demonstration displays and educational flyers.

• - Support the research being performed in the UC Solar lab on projects sponsored by the DOE, USDA, CA DWR, and CEC. Such support will include tasks related to monitoring test setups, collecting and analyzing data, and generally following the direction of GSRs and post-docs performing the work.

• - Support activities related to the development of new project proposals, including collecting publicly-available background information from the web and formatting it for distribution to the project teams.

• - Attend UC Solar group meetings and participate in project discussions.

Secondary Duties:

• Form a cooperative, working relationship with students and staff

• Meet regularly with both supervisors to provide updates and discuss program development and implementation

• Give a presentation to high school students detailing your internship

• Create a poster highlighting your internship

MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

• Strong interest in sustainability and communications

• Excellent organizational skills including the ability to handle multiple tasks and job functions

• Maintain excellent attendance

• Be prompt and reliable

• Act responsibly in a professional office work environment

• Demonstrate excellent teamwork skills and demeanor

• Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

• Strong writing and editing skills

• Detail oriented

• Demonstrate initiative and creativity

• Ability to work proactively and independently

• Ability to work and coordinate goals in a team

• Ability to meet deadlines

• Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
