STUDENT EMPLOYMENT JOB DESCRIPTION FORM
Environmental Sustainability Internship
Energy Efficiency Internship - ASHRAE Audit Level I&II
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are looking for an intern to help us with our ASHRAE Level 1 & 2 Auditing Process. The intern will be heavily involved in a screening audit. This audit will involve brief interviews with site operating personnel, a review of the facility’s utility bills and other operating data, and an abbreviated walk-through of the building. The intern will aide with the identification of potential energy improvements, understanding the general building configuration, and defining the type and nature of energy systems. The intern will be expected to produce a high-level, energy-use analysis for the entire facility, and a short report detailing the findings, which may include identifying a variety of recognizable efficiency opportunities. As an intern, you will then be responsible for co-developing energy conservation measures.
We need a self-motivated individual who takes initiative by setting their own goals, creates solutions for difficult problems and executes well thought out plans that ultimately will reduce GHG emissions and energy use. The audit will be compared to benchmark data, and therefore there will be an element of data analysis and report writing. The ideal candidate will be able to creatively solve problems and effectively communicate the solutions and translate technical concepts into clear prose. A passion for sustainability is a must.
The internship will require a commitment of 8 hours a week and will last 10-14 weeks. The internships will begin January 10th, 2017. The compensation will be $13/hour. This is a paid internship that will provide you with invaluable experiences and professional development opportunities.
As an intern, you will report directly to:
-Zuhair Mased, Director of Energy & Sustainability, who will act as your on-site supervisor for this internship.
-Mark Maxwell, Assistant Director of Sustainability, who will act as your on-site supervisor for this internship.
-Nicholas Conte, Sustainability Coordinator, who will assist in developing, planning, and implementing the program and will act as a sustainability peer-to-peer throughout the duration of this internship.
Primary Duties:

Verify that the building owner and staff receive adequate documentation and assistance to implement improvements
Help develop a ‘better solution’ to existing energy inefficiencies
Ensure that the building is performing efficiently and as expected
Recommend and implement measures that improve equipment performance
